Vorsprung durch Technik: hard to type, even harder to pronounce. However, it's an important concept when it comes to driving an Audi -- especially the coming Audi Q6 e-tron. Loosely translated as "advantage through technology," the phrase describes the new SUV and the new design philosophy that makes the next chapter of electric mobility an everyday experience.
While the Audi Q6 e-tron will arrive in Europe this summer, the Audi Q6-etron quattro variant expected to land on American shores in late 2024. Based upon initial reports, the electric SUV is expected to start at approximately $80,000 -- with the SQ6 e-tron variant anticipated to start at $101,000. Audi Q6 e-tron Features
Since U.S. model specifications haven't been finalized as of yet, some details may change. However, this is what we've learned to date:
- 315 kW, or 422 horsepower, engine
- Over 300 miles of range, per the EPA test cycle
- Up to 158 miles of range recharged in 10 minutes at a High Power Charging (HPC) station
- Around 95% of everyday braking managed by the advanced recuperation system
- Audi 14.5-inch MMI panoramic display and 10.9-inch MMI passenger display present a vivid digital staging ground
- 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 53.9 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down
- Another 2.2 cubic feet of storage space -- enough for travel bags -- is located under the front hood
- Android Automotive OS with over-the-air updates and third-party apps integrated into the MMI
- Bang & Olufsen premium sound system
- Full complement of driver-assistance systems, including rear parking assistance, efficiency assist, adaptive driving assistant plus, and drowsiness warning alert
What Is Premium Platform Electric (PPE)?
Developed in unison with Porsche, PPE is a key element in expanding the company's all-electric portfolio. The motors, power electronics, transmission, and battery have all been redeveloped, along with any related components. More importantly, these elements have all been tailored to meet the specific needs of battery electric vehicles.
Essential features of PPE include:
- More compact, higher-efficiency powertrain components -- with electric motors taking roughly 30% less space and weighing up to 20% lighter
- The power electronics revamp reduces weight, raw material consumption, and installation space, with less heat produced during operation
- The transmission features dry sump lubrication and an electric oil pump, minimizing friction losses while taking up less space
